Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind Episode 3 Discussion
Keeping on track with the manga (as per usual) part 3 shows us Buccellati joining Giorno in his quest to purify the mob. However, Buccellati warns Giorno that this will be dangerous. If he gets caught, Buccellati will not bail him out. Giorno accepts, and Buccellati leads him to the prison in which one of the Capo of Passione (the name of the mob Buccellati is a part of) and learns that he gives orders from the inside of the prison. He also learns that the boss of Passione is a complete mystery; no one knows his name, face or anything else about him. Giorno meets Polpo, the capo, and is tasked with keeping a lighter lit for twenty-four hours in order to be allowed into the gang. This test is to prove to Polpo that Giorno is trustworthy. Giorno sneaks the lighter out of the prison and makes it back home, putting the lighter in bread and surrounding it in objects in his room so a breeze won't blow it out. Koichi then enters his room and with Giorno hiding, he sees Koichi find his passport and leaves. Giorno stealthily grabbed the lighter out of the room without Koichi noticing and is suddenly splashed with water by an elderly janitor. The lighter's flame is put out. The elderly man, feeling bad for "breaking" his lighter, tries to light it again for Giorno. Once he relights it, a black, ominous stand suddenly appears and stabs the elderly man's soul with the infamous Stand Arrow protruding from the stand's mouth. Polpo's stand (we later learn it's name to be Black Sabbath) states that the elderly janitor was not chosen, having Giorno question what that even means. Giorno backs away from the stand, stepping into the shadow of a tree, provoking Black Sabbath to attack Giorno. That concludes episode 3 of Golden Wind.
Having this episode in our minds, we learn a lot about Passione, the mob that Buccellati is a part of. This organization greatly emphasizes trust within it's members (along with stands; people for the most part cannot join this mob without a stand). We also have to remember that Polpo is merely a Capo. Not to discredit the legitimacy of Capos in part 5, but there are many Capos and a mysterious boss cloaked in shadows that they must answer to. Knowing that this gang is teeming with stand users, Giorno's plan to change this organization from the inside might be harder than he thought.
Going back to the stand arrow inside Black Sabbath, there are a lot of questions that come up. We know that the stand arrow was the reason DIO was able to send so many stand users against the Stardust Crusaders in part 3 and how Yoshikage Kira's dad was able to send stand users against Josuke and company. However, the stand arrow used in part 4 was presumably destroyed when Yoshihiro Kira was killed and the other arrow in part 4 was used by Keicho Nijimura to create stand users to kill his dad. That arrow was recovered by the Speedwagon Foundation after Akira Otoishi was defeated. So this stand arrow is a different arrow and Polpo's stand has it, presumably to create other stand users for Passione. Or in the case of the elderly janitor, used to kill some people. The whole backstory for all the stand arrows will be discussed and revealed later in part 5 but for now, this information provided above will serve as a little something to think about going forward in part 5.
Overall, this episode was another great one and the plot is really picking up with this episode. Golden Wind's pacing is very good and it will continue to be pretty good throughout the series. I hope you all have been enjoying part 5 as much as I have and as always, we await the next Jojo Friday.
