JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind Episode 14 Discussion
Last week the staff from David Productions took time off for the New Year, so we had somewhat of a recap episode last week. We start back up in JoJo's with the gang driving to a train station in Naples to use the key that they obtained from the dog mosaic. Abbacchio's arm was reattached thanks to Sticky Fingers. Once they arrive at the station, they are instructed by the boss to use the key near a drinking fountain at the station and take the train to Venice. Mista makes fun of Fugo, who was looking at Trish and wondering how it must feel to be a target all her life. At the train station, we see two members from the Hitman Team, Prosciutto and Pesci, looking at Buccellati (who is near a drinking fountain). Buccellati cannot figure out where he is supposed to use the key, but then he notices that the turtle near the fountain has an indentation on its shell that resembles the shape of the key. Buccellati takes the turtle and goes on the train. Pesci and Prosciutto decide to try to flank Buccellati, but they lose track of him and the entire gang. They decide to look in the driver's cab, so they attack whomever was inside with Pesci's Beach Boy (Fisher Man), but only snag the driver with the fishing pole stand. Prosciutto tells Pesci to stay at the cab in case Buccellati's gang tries to stop the train. Prosciutto goes to check the rest of the train. We see the turtle from the drinking fountain underneath a chair in the driver's cab and the key is inside the indentation on the turtle's shell. The key activated the turtle's ability and all of them are now in a room within the turtle. Pesci notices the turtle underneath the chair, but is taken aback by seeing the activation of Prosciutto's stand The Grateful Dead, which was changed to The Thankful Death. Inside the turtle, Mista notices something wrong with Narancia. Narancia has started to age, along with Giorno and Fugo. Mista is aging, just at a much slower pace. The gang realizes that Mista, Trish and Buccellati are aging slower due to the fact that they were drinking cold drinks, thus slowing the aging process from the Grateful Dead's ability. How the Grateful Dead targets people to age is by their body temperature. The gang decide that they are going to try to get the upper hand and attack the enemy stand users first. Mista goes out of the turtle and sees that the air conditioning is off, so goes to click the "A/C" button, which activates the trap that Pesci set. The fishing hook from Beach Boy embeds itself inside Mista's hand and this is where the episode leaves off.
If you weren't sure if Araki was creative when it comes to stands and their abilities, part 5 will prove that. Coco Jumbo, the turtle, is a stand user and the stand (called Mr. President) is just a room within the turtle. This stand isn't flashy or extremely powerful, but it has many uses and is a very unique stand. We also learn of another atypical stand in this episode: Beach Boy. This stand is not humanoid like most other stand; this stand is just a fishing pole. Araki has showed us time and time again that he is willing to break some boundaries and be very creative in making stands. In my opinion, most stands in part 5 are very unique and shows us how comfortable Araki is with the idea of inventing creative stands and stand abilities. In part 3, while there were interesting and cool stands, they were rather generic. When watching part 4, the viewer can tell that Araki is experimenting more with what a stand can be and can do. There will be many more stands coming up in Golden Wind that shatters prior notions of what a stand should be or what a stand usually is. Look forward to these stands, as there will be many more!
