Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind Episode 5 Discussion

We begin episode 5 with Buccellati talking to Giorno about the hierarchy of Passione. The boss is the head honcho and everyone answers to him, even though no one knows anything about him. Next are the Capos, who answer to the boss and give orders to the rest of the gang members. Buccellati tells Giorno that in order to take down the boss, they must have a team and get close to him so they can learn everything they can about him. We cut to two Passione gang members talking about how Polpo committed suicide, so his hidden treasure is up for the taking. After this short encounter with potentially villainous gang members, we meet the rest of the gang. Fugo is teaching Narancia math (and Narancia is failing), Mista is freaking out about there being four pieces of cake and Abbacchio is listening to music. Giorno meets them and Abbacchio urinates in the tea kettle and urges Giorno to drink it. He does so, but he turned one of his teeth into a jellyfish that sucks up the liquid he just drank. Everyone is astonished and start to open up to Giorno, all except for Abbacchio. Buccellati and the gang rent a boat, where he tells them all that Polpo is dead and that his treasure is ripe for the taking and he is the only man in the gang that knows where it is due to the fact that he is the one that hid it. If they end up successfully obtaining this treasure, they could seize the rank of Capo that is now vacant. Suddenly, Narancia is attacked, being sucked into a shallow box on the boat. Looking for the missing gang member, Mista and Fugo disappear like Narancia did. Buccellati concludes that they are being attacked because he is the only one who knows where the treasure is located, so this mystery attacker wants to obtain this vital information. Giorno reveals that the missing Passione members are still alive and he knows this because he turned Narancia's shoe into a fly and that fly is attempting to return to its owner, but it cannot find Narancia, so it is wandering around in search of the owner of the shoe. Abbacchio is distrustful of Giorno though, since he is the newest member and he knows almost nothing abut him. Even when Buccellati states that Abbacchio's stand ability would be perfect to defeat this stand user, Abbacchio will not reveal his stand power to a stranger such as Giorno, who he does not trust. Attempting to gain trust and to further the revealing of the hidden stand's ability, Giorno rushes towards where the fly was searching for Narancia. Giorno is grabbed by an extended arm and stabbed by a rapier-looking sword. Abbacchio, looking very determined, reveals his stand, Moody Blues (or Moody Jazz, as we see at the end of this episode). This is where episode 5 ends.

Now that we have met all of the gang members of Buccellati's team, we can ascertain (to an extent) who these people are and their personalities, even if we don't know their stand abilities quite yet. Mista is a man who is hates the number four, even going so far as to not eat cake that has four pieces remaining. This quirk of his is almost debilitating, putting him in dangerous scenarios simply because of his distaste of fours. However, Mista is a trustworthy man with a powerful stand, has a creative way of doing things and a positive, gung-ho attitude.

Fugo is a very intelligent man with a scary and deadly stand. He tries to teach Narancia math but when Narancia gets the math problem wrong, he stabs his cheek with a fork, calling him an idiot. While he can be helpful, friendly and caring, he is a scary man with an attitude and almost no patience for certain things. He is a calculated man with fierce loyalty to Passione.

Narancia is a somewhat uneducated member of Passione with a friendly attitude and a childlike demeanor to most things. While overall uneducated, Narancia is a creative individual with loyalty to the team and to his friends. Narancia is a perfect example of a quick-tempered teenager with a bad mouth and violent tendencies. However, Narancia knows of his lack of education and lack of self restrain, so he is willing to learn about these things; a classic example of this is shown in this episode where Fugo is attempting to teach him math.

Abbacchio is a distrusting man whose trust must be earned, as we have seen in this episode. Like the other members of Buccellati's team, this man is loyal and smart. However, unlike the other members, he is very critical of Giorno due to the fact that he is new to the team and has yet to earn Abbacchio's trust. As we will see later, Abbacchio pursues justice and wants to help people when he can. This man smiles very little, seemingly a very serious and stern member of this gang.

With all the information we have from the anime, I believe that everyone will be a fan of each member of Buccellati's gang. All of them are likeable in their own way and they have personalities that people can both like and relate to. The anime has done the manga justice and, as always, I am excited for the next episode.
